Hang your drapes and curtains high. If you want more light shining through or the illusion that your windows and walls are taller, than it’s a great tip to hang your treatments at least four inches from the top of the window. Many homes only have eight or nine foot ceilings so designers want to draw the eyes up. Hanging curtains higher above the window molding will achieve this effect.
Likewise, extending the curtains on either side of the window will make the window seem much larger. You will need to buy a significantly longer curtain rod and install it at least four to six inches above the top of the window. Gather the curtains right up to the edges of the window frame on the right and left and poof, you have a larger window. This works well in basements with little light.
Furthermore, be careful when adding valances. Sometimes they help and sometimes they don’t. This is a trial and error thing, unfortunately. There are many great business where you can shop for discounted curtains online. Just search for them in Google.
